What are Some Common Problems with Lexus SC 400?
SC 400 was, in its day, more than just a two-door coupe. It was a standout in the greater Lexus SC family of grand tourers. You likely love yours not just for its enjoyable ride, but also for the fact that it doesn't have many issues. Stay on top of those, and the car can last you decades, 200,000 miles or more. Here's a few to watch out for.
1. Faulty Gauges
If the LEDs on the gauges in the dash of your SC 400 are getting harder to see, especially in low light, most likely, they're burning out (if they haven't burned out already). This was a known issue with models from between 1992 and 2000 -- those with 152,000 miles or more, on average. You'll have to replace them.
2. HVAC Failure
If the digital display for the heater and air conditioner in your SC 400 isn't working right, or if the temperature control isn't letting you switch between heating and air conditioning, most likely, the control's the problem. This was another known issue the car had between '92 and 2000; models with 161,000 miles on average these days may still have it. You'll have to replace the control.
3. Bad EVAP Systems
Is your Check Engine light on? There are plenty of reasons why that could be, but more than likely, it's because of a fault in the evaporative emission (EVAP) system. This was a known issue for SC 400 models from between 1996 and 2000. Inspect the system first to be sure it's actually the problem; if it is, you'll have to replace whatever parts are bad.
