Lexus Cabin Air Filters
All About Your Lexus Cabin Air Filter
The air filters in your car or SUV capture airborne contaminants -- road debris, for instance, and insects, plus dust, pollen, mold spores, and more. The engine filter keeps them out of the air intake and away from other engine parts; the cabin filter, however, keeps them out of the heater and air conditioner. Without one, the ducts and vents would full up with muck.
You're in luck; at Longo Lexus, we've got the best possible replacements -- genuine OEM. They're Lexus quality, guaranteed to fit, and best of all, warranty backed; shop with peace of mind.
What Happens if You Don't Change the Cabin Air Filter?
It accumulates buildup, which will clog the filter and restrict airflow severely. Air quality will get much worse, fast; your interior will start to smell dirty or stale. The engine will start to work harder than it should, affecting other electrical systems -- the alternator, for instance, and even the drivetrain. Both the air conditioning and the heating will start not working as well. Altogether, it'll mean more wear and tear and faster, and all the expenses for costly repairs that come with it.
How Often Should You Change the Cabin Air Filter?
Every 15,000 miles or so, according to the maintenance schedules in most owner's manuals. Otherwise, whenever you see the signs it's going bad -- worn or brittle filter fibers, for instance, or dirt and debris buildup, and especially restricted airflow, with the telltale Check Engine light on the dash along with it.
How to Change a Cabin Air Filter
It's straightforward, generally the same whether in a Lexus LS or ES model, a GX, a GS, or otherwise. Consult your owner's manual, but generally, do the following:
- Open your vehicle's glove compartment.
- Locate a pin and screw on its outer edge.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the screw and set it aside.
- Then, remove the pin and save it. You may also have to release a band (some glove compartments have them to hold them in place).
- Gently press both sides of the glove compartment and lower it.
- Locate a cover behind it; that's the cabin filter cover, with a housing behind it.
- Release the cover: squeeze the tabs on either side of it.
- Remove the cover.
- The cabin filter is behind the cover. Take the filter out.
- Clean the filter housing (that's what the filter's installed in).
- Put the new cabin filter in.
- Snap the filter cover back in place.
- Put the glove compartment back in its original position, put the pin and/or band back in, and replace the screw.
- Close the glove compartment.
What's the Average Cost of Cabin Air Filter Replacement?
Anywhere from $30 to $100 or more. You'll get exceptional value here, however; our pricing is lower than MSRP, and sometimes, you can get a pretty steep markdown.
