Common Lexus RX 300 Problems and Repairs
Your RX 300 is the ideal luxury SUV -- one with a quiet ride, a comfortable one, and capable, not to mention well-equipped. Sadly, that doesn't mean without issue over the years.
Luckily, as with any Lexus vehicle, repairs go quick --- provided you know what to look for. Here's a few examples; get on them sooner, and you can keep your ride on the road for the long haul.
1. Bad Oxygen Sensors
If the Check Engine light is on in your RX 300, then most likely, it's because an oxygen sensor has gone out. This is a known issue for models from between 1999 and 2003 with 247,000 miles or fewer. The sensor will have to be replaced.
2. Faulty Engine
If the engine in your RX 300 is idling strangely or stalling, then most likely, airflow into it is restricted, the result of debris having gotten into the idle air control valve. This is a known issue for models from between '99 and '03 with 319,000 miles or fewer. The valve can be cleaned, but usually, it'll end up having to be changed.
3. Defective Mass Airflow Sensors
If your RX 300 engine is losing power, and the car's having trouble speeding up, then usually, it's because of wrong air-level info sent to the engine control unit (ECU) -- and this, because of a faulty mass airflow sensor. This is a known issue for models from between '99 and '03 with 201,000 miles or fewer. Replacing the sensor should solve the problem.
With the right skillset, these should be no problem. If you need help, though, you're welcome to get in touch with a Lexus service center.
